World Heritage Yoga

by Mike Mason

The Victoria Falls has long been one of the most sought after vacation destinations in the world. Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is a World Heritage site – the name is from the local language, Kololo, and means the Smoke that Thunders, an apt name for the vast Victoria Falls, the World’s largest waterfall during the rainy season, where the mighty mile-wide Zambezi River plunges some 355 feet into the Songwe Gorge.

Just 5 miles from the Falls on the Zimbabwe side of the river lies the Victoria Falls River Lodge, a luxury lodge where you can enjoy a 4-day safari in the heart of the African bush. Your safari includes early morning and afternoon yoga classes as well as time set aside for meditation in the peaceful serenity of this private game reserve.

Accommodation at the lodge consists of luxury tents – in reality these are five-star rooms with luxury furnishings – a comfortable area in which to sit and relax, a larger than king size bed and a spacious open-plan bathroom, all adjoining a large deck with stunning views of the river, the surrounding fauna and wildlife. There is a choice of daily game viewing safaris, or you can opt to just relax by the lodge’s pool before your afternoon yoga class, where you will experience fitness for the mind, body and the soul. Your vacation includes three sumptuous meals a day and you’ll have opportunities to enjoy the evening by a campfire overlooking the Zambezi under a New Moon and the millions of stars in our galaxy that are clearly visible so far away from the metropolis. This New Moon Yoga Safari is not to be missed.
