When was the last full moon for 2015..?

by Mike Mason

As 2015 comes to an end, we are probably all attempting to fit in those inevitable year end “lasts” — the last trip to the grocery store for 2015 or perhaps the last BBQ of 2015.  If your checklist includes anything to do with stargazing, you may or may not know when the last full moon for 2015 will fall.

This rare occurrence will occur on 25th December 2015 .. the last time a full moon  fell on Christmas day was back in 1977. So this full moon means that this will be our first sighting of the full moon on this special day if you are younger than 38. It is only the ninth of its kind in American history and we won’t get another merry full moon until Christmas 19 years from – 2034.

Happy holidays to you all and here’s to another great year ahead in 2016.
